NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT) Nitte, an autonomous institution affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi was established in the year I986 in memory of Late.Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya, a distinguished engineer of the erstwhile South Canara district in Karnataka. It is one of the constituent institutions under Nitte Education Trust, Mangalore, which runs about 36 institutions in various areas of education right from primary school to post-graduation centres, including professional courses like Engineering, Management, Medical, Nursing, Dental, Paramedical and others.
Nitte Deemed to be University, a NAAC – ‘A’ Grade Accredited Deemed to be University is run by the Nitte Education Trust founded by late Justice K. S. Hegde, a well-known judge of Supreme Court of India and former speaker of Indian Lok Sabha. The Institute is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and 3 UG programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and 4 UG programs have undergone the NBA Team visit and expecting the results about the accreditation. The institute is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) – ‘A’ Grade with 3.11 CGPA. It has also been certified to the ISO 9001:2015 quality standards by NVT Quality Certifications (ANAB accredited).
NMAMIT has been recognized as a lead Institute under TEQIP, a World Bank project executed through MHRD. The Institute is having very active MOUs for research and project collaborations with Penn State University, USA, Mekerere University, Uganda, Erasmus University, Netherlands, Ritsumeikan University, Japan and National University of Singapore. The institute is recognized as a nodal centre for the distance education programme of Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO, Dehradun for its outreach programmes. Recently the India Rankings (NIRF-2018) results has been announced and the institute has been ranked under 101-150 rank band.
The institute has been participating in the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) Student Project Programme (SPP) since 1990 and is a 4 time recipient of the “Best Performing Engineering College in Karnataka” during the last one and half decades other than bagging the Best College of the year Awards during 2003-2004, 2006-07, 2008-19 & 2014-15 from KSCST, Govt of Karnataka, and the first ever Rolling Shield for Best College for KSCST sponsored projects from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi during 2007, the institute has also received many best projects of the year awards at the state and national level competitions held elsewhere, including SRISTI national award- 2015 and Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) award-2015 for an innovative final year project work of a student.
In tune with the SPP seminar and Exhibition, NMAM Institute of Technology has been organising annual Exposition of inhouse student projects “EXPRO” since 2011 giving away Best Project of the Year Awards annually in 7 Engineering disciplines, other than 17 abstract volumes compiled and released so far as a part of this event. During 2004, NMAMIT hosted the state level technical project exhibition “Do-It-Yourself” organised by the department of Technical Education, Govt. of Karnataka in its campus. The institute has also secured Gurukul Jyoti national Award in 2007 for Excellence in Technical Education. The institute has been ranked 61st in the top NPTEL Local chapters in India. The institute has entered 101-150 rank band in the recently announced India Rankings-2018 which is commonly known as NIRF.
Courses Offered:
NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research programmes in seven disciplines of engineering viz: Bio-Technology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
The specialization in Postgraduate (M.Tech.,) programme include Construction Technology, Structural Engineering, Machine Design, Energy Systems, Power Electronics & Drives, Digital Electronics, VLSI & Embedded Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Networking and Industrial biotechnology. The institute also offers a 3 years MCA course and a 2 years MBA course in the campus. Biotechnology, Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Business Administration departments of the institute have been recognized as research centres for offering Ph.D. programmes under VTU.
Research & Innovation:
In the present day, research has become integral part of any Institution of higher learning. The institute has a New Age Incubation Centre which helps young minds in nurturing their innovative ideas and projects by funding them. Last year, the Institute has also setup Centre for Student Innovation (CFSI) to encourage students to involve themselves in innovation and research.
The college has a very active Aero Club, Robotics Club, IoT Club and SAE-BAJA Club through which students’ carryout several projects and participate in various competitions in different Engineering colleges. NMAMIT has been earnest in its attempt at infusing research, culture in its campus. The starting of Research & Innovation Centre (RIC) is a fresh attempt by NMAMIT, to work on cutting edge research. Built with 6000 square feet area, it is expected to house all major research labs of the institution. Already research laboratory for conducting research on advanced micromachining system, Vibration Isolation System, Power Electronics, System design fabrication testing, advanced machining research, biofuel information demonstration centre, innovation in biofuel research has been established.
The first floor of RIC is powered by Solar Smart Grid System with the application like Air Conditioning, lighting and fan using DC. The institute also support cultural activities by organising ‘Incridea’, an annual fest, Spicmacay etc
The institute is located on a picturesque campus situated at the foot of the Western Ghats of Karnataka on the Padubidri-Karkala State Highway which is well connected with Mangalore (55Km) and Udupi/Manipal (45Km) through NH66 and NH169. Frequent bus service facilities from major cities like Mangalore and Udupi provides hassle free easy accessibility to the institute. There are buses to Mumbai and Bangalore on a daily basis. The nearest Central Railway station is in Mangalore. Mangalore International airport is the closest airport which is about 35 km away from the campus.
