The future of Retailing is going through a transformative phase, with Offline and Online merging seamlessly as Brick and Mortar retailers find newer ways to be digitally present and offer new engagement experiences. The Online retailers too are discovering novel paths to enhance digital experiences through technology-enabled innovations, chatbots, artificial intelligence, analytical tools for assessment of personalized offerings etc.
Retailing today is no more limited to selling and distribution functions, rather it’s inclusive of all marketing functions irrespective of the type of product or industry that the product or service belongs to. Tory Burch, Founder and Creative Director of Tory Burch and American fashion designer, says “My company is an extension of me, so when I design my stores I want people to feel that they are in my home”. According to IDC, the Global Market Intelligence Firm, each person online creates 1.7 MB of new data every second, creating a huge trail that companies will be able to mine. Similarly, Gartner, the Global Research and Advisory Firm, predicts 85% of the customer interactions in retail will be managed by AI that looks ambitious today and would become an essential technology closer to 2030. It is in this background, the MDP takes an innovative approach for a systematic understanding of the opportunities in the retail business including branding, store promotion management, channel management, innovations in retail operations, and modern trends in retailing.
This MDP will focus on the different dimensions and complexities in retail business and the possible ways to enhance retail performance with technological and strategic approaches.
