If an author wants the work to be considered seriously in the academic or scientific community and in a highly reputed journal, one should strive to write as well as possible. This includes using proper grammar and spelling, being precise with pronouns and abbreviations, and speaking with as much nuance and precision as humanly possible. However, the writing style typical of a certain topic¬†¬† published in a particular journal may vary significantly from what is typical in other fields or published in other journals. Quite frequently, these expectations take the form of requirements that must be met in order for one’s work to be published in most reputed journals and cited across the academic community.

For example, in the realm of the hard sciences, where accuracy and readability are of the utmost importance, a style of writing as plain and simple as humanly possible is frequently recommended. In this form of writing, you should discuss the procedures, conditions, results, and impacts in detail. The accuracy of statements is more crucial than their lyrical quality. Potential readers will decide whether or not to read this study/paper based on how the content is summarised in the title, abstract, and other easily searchable parts or descriptions of the paper or article. On top of that, your mentioning of keywords will draw more attention for the reader to get a grip on how deep the study is and the focus of the work. Eloquence is, of course, always appreciated, but decisions about the validity of a study and its conclusions will be heavily influenced by how the necessary information is reported. Connecting your objectives and the conclusion gives the reader a well-read story to read and connections to different parts of the paper. However, the aim is to provide factual information very clearly. While it is acceptable to use assumptions and generalisations, these sections of a paper or article should still be written in an understandable and scientific style.

On the other hand, one can generally expect a more refined and exquisite style of writing to be used in the artistic world. This is because the material and arguments presented are often subjective, filled with speculation, and contain a lot of nuance. In the context of a literary study, for example, an author can appropriate, imitate, manipulate, or invert the language of the works analysed. This can be used to make cryptic commentary not only on the paper or article but also on the main point the author is making and the conversation surrounding it. When researching the past, a significant amount of time and space can be devoted to demonstrating and discussing different ways to read a chronicle written centuries ago. In this particular case, the goal is not to confine the discussion to obvious truths, but rather to illustrate the many distinct perspectives that can be taken on the same topic. In the fields of the humanities, management, and social sciences, titles and headings frequently make use of puns, which can have several complex meanings and are intended to attract readers. Management subject, as read widely now, needs clarity in the way it is presented, since several ways the work is presented – case, article, research paper, comparative analysis, and the like. The language becomes crucial since it conveys to the reader the full content of the article and its importance.

While, both approaches are frequently used in an equal and complementary way in the field of social sciences. For example, a more direct and scientific style is generally used when giving techniques and results, while a more suggestive and humanistic style is generally used when the aim is to talk about the impact of results. Extensive reading in a discipline, especially works on your subject and/or published by the journal or publisher to which you wish to submit your writing, will provide you with the models necessary to adapt your own style of writing to the professional expectations and requirements of your land. Although there are no rules that can be considered gospel regarding when and where a certain style is appropriate, reading widely in a discipline can be very beneficial.
