The NMAM Institute of Technology was established in 1986 under Nitte Education Trust, founded by late Justice K. S. Hegde, former Judge of Supreme Court of India and Speaker of Lok Sabha in the year 1979. During the last four decades of its meaningful existence, the Group has established 36 institutions of excellence spread over three campuses at Nitte, Mangalore and Bangalore in the State of Karnataka. A centre of excellence in education and community service in Karnataka State, Nitte institutions are duly recognized by the relevant apex bodies of Government of India. NMAM Institute of Technology is named in the memory of Late Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya, a distinguished engineer of the erstwhile South Canara district in the Karnataka. The Institute is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It is accredited with ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with CGPA of 3.11 out of 4 which is valid till October 29, 2022 and all the UG programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation for a period of 3 years under TIER-1 Category. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 has ranked the institute at 128th position among the engineering institutes in the country. The QS I-GAUGE Ratings of 2019 has placed the institute in the DIAMOND category, based on various Primary and Secondary criteria. The institute has also been certified to the ISO 9001:2015 quality standards by NVT Quality Certifications (ANAB accredited).
The various departments, laboratories, and hostels of the Institute are spread out in a vast 60-acre campus. NMAMIT is an autonomous institute which is affiliated to Visvesvarayya Technological University, Belagavi. It was recognized as a lead Institute under TEQIP; a World Bank project executed through MHRD and received a sum of Rs.16.42 crores under TEQIP-1 in the year 2005 for the duration of 4 years & Rs.4 crores under TEQIP-2 in 2011 for the duration of 3 years. The Institute is having very active MOUs and agreements for research and project collaborations with Penn State University USA, Antwerp University Belgium, Ritsumeikan University Japan and National University of Singapore. The institute is recognized as a nodal centre for the distance education program of Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO and Dehradun for its outreach programs.
Courses Offered:
NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral Programs in seven disciplines of Engineering: Bio-Technology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The specialization in Postgraduate (M.Tech.) program includes Computer Networking, Computer Science and Engineering, Construction Technology, Digital Electronics & Communication, Energy Systems, Industrial Biotechnology, Machine Design, Power Electronics, Software Engineering, Structural Engineering and VLSI Design & Embedded Systems. The institute also offers a 3 years MCA course and a 2 years MBA course in the campus. Biotechnology, Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Business Administration departments of the institute have been recognized as Research Centres for offering Ph.D. Programmes.
Sports and Games Facilities:
The Institute has established a state-of-the-art sports facility named BC ALVA SPORTS COMPLEX in the campus. The facilities in the SPORTS COMPLEX include an indoor stadium of 14000 sq.ft which has 3 Badminton Courts, one Basket Ball Court, facilities for Table Tennis and other indoor games like Carom and Chess, a modern Multi Gymnasium, Individual Exercise Stations for Weight lifting and Power Lifting and Separate Fitness Centre for athletes.
The outdoor facilities include a Standard Athletic Track of 400 mts. and facilities for all types of throws & jumps and Pavilion with Fitness Centre, a Cricket field and 3 cement and clay cricket pitches for practicing, a Hockey field, three Volley Ball and Throwball courts, a Hand Ball court, two Basket Ball courts, Foot Ball field, Kabaddi court, Kho Kho court and a Net Ball Court.
These facilities have been created on a land of 10 acres and at a total cost of Rs. 15 crores. The multi-gymnasium and wooden-floored basketball indoor court have been made at a cost of Rs. 2 crores, while the athletic track, cricket, football and hockey fields, pavilion, outdoor basketball court and other facilities have been made at a cost of Rs 13 crores.
The Trust supports budding and promising sportsmen and women by giving free education along with diet and hostel facilities. Technical support and training are given by a team of experienced coaches, medical and physiotherapy care. The sports quota students are studying in high school, Polytechnic, Degree College, Management Institute and in the Engineering College.
The Department of Counselling, Student Welfare, Training & Placement is vibrant in its activities and sees an NMAMITian as a cheerful, healthy, articulate, enthusiastic team player, socially-ecologically conscious, ethically upright, technically competent, a universal citizen who is eminently employable. It has a qualified and experienced Mental Health Professional heading the department, a full-time Placement Executive, departmental faculty coordinators, student volunteers, trained and committed departmental staff dedicated to working for the students’ overall well being. The department that calls itself Team Abhyuday, does everything positive possible through various inputs, participatory activities spread throughout students’ stay in the college, from the time they enter the portals of NMAMIT. The department helps those in need directly or by utilizing tangible and intangible resources available with peers, senior students, distinguished alumni, industry mentors, enthusiastic faculty, friends of NMAMIT, library & the internet, to get the students ahead in this competitive world. Students with personal problems are assisted to resolve or minimize their problems through consistent supportive therapeutic help. They are assisted even after they leave the campus. Every year more than 75 companies visit the campus for the placement and more than 80% of eligible students get placed through campus recruitment. To make the students globally competitive, foreign languages are also taught in college. In continuation of these efforts, starting from August 2019, Japanese Language classes are being conducted to the interested undergraduate and postgraduate students by experts who have living and working experience in Japan.
Research & Innovation:
NMAMIT has been earnest in its attempts at infusing research culture in its campus. There are altogether eleven Centres of Excellence established in the Institute. The starting of the Research & Innovation Centre (RIC) in the year 2016 was a fresh attempt by NMAMIT, to work on cutting edge research. Built with 7000 square feet area, it has major research labs of the institution. Already research laboratory for conducting research on Advanced Micromachining System, Vibration Isolation System, Power Electronics, System Design Fabrication Testing, Advanced Machining Research, Bio-fuel Research & Research using deep learning techniques have been established in the Institute. The top floor of RIC is powered by 18.5KVA Solar System with the appliances like Air Conditioning and fans operated by DC drives.
Under the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Institute, a welding centre in association with M/S Fronius India Pvt. Ltd has been set up during 2017-18. The Automotive Learning Factory set up during the same year houses latest Bus chassis provided by M/S. Ashok Leyland and a BMW car Engine which is used by the students to carry out experimental work. The institute has a New Age Incubation Centre which was started in the year 2014 which helps young minds in nurturing their innovative ideas and projects by funding them. In the year 2017, the Institute also has set up Centre for Student Innovation (CFSI) to encourage students to involve themselves in innovation and research.
